THE MANDALORIAN
The trivialization of the Star Wars brand is absolutely unstoppable in the hands of Disney. Their plan to offer a new film every Christmas was an ambitious, but predictable idea made without passion for the whole Star Wars series. During the failure of the trilogy of sequels, people started watching “The Mandalorian”, first Star Wars live-action television series created by John Favreau and available on Disney +, streaming platform which unfortunately still isn’t available in Poland.
The plot and production aspects were a secret until the premiere of pilot episode, which appeared on Disney+ in November 2019. The first episode in just 38 minutes introduces some important characters and manages to set the plot: after the fall of the Empire and before the appearance of the First Order. The eight chapters can be understood as eight more or less independent stories, united by a common plot. The whole series is a mixture of spaghetti western in the Star Wars style that despite not risking too much, have offered us a very entertaining product with great photography, production design and the spirit of the old adventure series with monsters, shootings and trips from one place to another.

The Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal, is a bounty hunter, who despite of always wearing a helmet, offers us very expressive interpretation. By his gestures and his attitude, we can empathize and understand very well what he thinks and feels. In my opinion, it was extremely difficult task, although there was information that the actor didn’t participate in every episode and big part of the work was done by his double.
Here I have to mention one of the greatest characters and internet memes of the end of 2019: Baby Yoda. This little creature touches heart in every scene with every gesture and expression made by his big black eyes. During many adventures, our protagonists meet an Ugnaught named Kuiil (Nick Nolte), a bounty droid named IG-11 (Taika Waititi) and Cara Dune played by Gina Carano.
Ludwig Göransson gave us an original soundtrack that mixes some of the great compositions by John Williams with the chords of the best western soundtracks composed by Ennio Morricone. All main characters have their own piece of music.

Another thing that has marked the first season of The Mandalorian is the fan service. Usually, the fan service is marked as something negative. However, in a franchise like Star Wars, it's practically necessary. We are talking about several generations of fans who have followed the franchise created by George Lucas for 40 years. Each of those generations want to see different things in a Star Wars production, and part of the success of The Mandalorian is that this series satisfied every generation.
Throughout each chapter of season 1 of The Mandalorian we can find a good amount of Star Wars Easter Eggs. From inevitable nods to Star Wars Rebels to details taken from Star Wars video games and the films of the saga, especially from the Classic Trilogy.
Another thing The Mandalorian has shown is that Star Wars can exist without the predomination of the Force. It’s a story without intervention of the Dark Side and the Light Side and also without Jedi, Sith or lightsabers. The Force exists in The Mandalorian, but it doesn't unnecessarily become another character.
In addition, each chapter of The Mandalorian presents us really amazing pieces of conceptual art from the episode.
