Phoebe Waller-Bridge has an almost supernatural talent. The English creator of British tragicomic series such as: Fleabag, Killing Eve, Crashing and Run is not only a writer, director and screenwriter, but also an amazing actress. Fleabag is an adaptation of monodrama that Waller-Bridge wrote and presented at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in 2013, winning the first prize. The series is available on Amazon Prime.

Fleabag is a story of a thirty-year-old woman who has to learn how to deal with herself and the other characters after the death of her friend Boo (Jenny Rainsford) with whom she ran a cafe in London. Her father (Bill Paterson) is widowed and her stepmother, a malevolent painter masterfully played by Olivia Coleman, winner of the Oscar for Best Leading Actress for the film The Favourite (2019), who is constantly teases his stepdaughter, making her feel bad every time she visits her father.  


The script has a tendency to use foul language, full of irony and black humor. It was awarded multiple times. In 2017, Phoebe Waller-Bridge received the Royal British Television Society Award for Best Screenplay and also the Broadcasting Press Guild Award in the same category.

What's fascinating is how the series manages to connect with the audiencem, who plays another character. Waller-Bridge is frequently breaking the-fourth-wall when she has to make painful confessions and reveal something. 


The cast is highlighted by the aforementioned Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Olivia Coleman, but also Sian Clifford and Andrew Scott. When it comes to photography, Tony Miller's work on Fleabag is fantastic. For the different planes of London, the play of lights, the capture of the nights and the days are very well achieved, as well as the interiors like Fleabag's father's house or the church. The soundtrack by Phoebe Waller-Bridge's sister, Isobel, is very well done in moments of humor and in moments of tragedy. Isobel won the award for Best Composer at the Underwire Film Festival and also for Best Sound Designer at the Off West End Theater Awards.

“The Boys” is a superhero series created by Eric  Kripke  (who created also “Supernatural”) for Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming platform. Looking for Alaska is eight-episode miniseries produced by Hulu and available on HBO.
