DARK
Dark is a German series produced by Netflix, and in just three seasons has become one of the best science fiction drama in recent years and also one of my favourites non-English series. It’s quite surprising because I don’t speak German and I used to watch only English or Spanish series to improve my grammar and vocabulary. Like said Bong Joon Ho during his Golden Globes acceptance speech for best foreign-language film, ‘‘Once you overcome the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.” So, although I never watch German series, I started watching Dark.

The plot starts in near future, in 2019 in small town in Germany, Winden, which seems to be full of secrets and where kids start to disappear. Just like 30 years earlier. The main character, Jonas and his friends are desperate to figure out what happened and find a boy named Mikkel, but this task will be much more difficult than you can imagine. This event will change the histories of four families and reveals uncomfortable truth about them. Dark is a dense series full of mysteries that are tangled between all the characters in the story. Each one is important; each one has a purpose and each one is connected in unimaginable ways to the rest of the characters.

The show has three seasons full of symbolism, time travels, mind-blowing plot and paradoxes. You really need to watch each and every scene closely and keep track of all the characters because Dark is not a series like any other. Before its premiere in 2017 it was named "the German Stranger Things", something that turned out to be completely false. Dark handles a much more complex, dark, intense and dramatic plot accompanied by a magnificent soundtrack that produces tense all the time. It makes the series much more intense, and every time the cave appears, we can feel that things are going to get worse.
The first season of the show was released in December 2017 and the second, in June 2019. The third, final season was released on June 27th and I watched the entire season on the same day. Every episode convinces to watch the next one and at the end of every season the creators offer enough answers to leave us satisfied and at the same time we can’t wait for more. I’m not going to spoil anything, but I was quite satisfied with the way it ended. The creators had a plan for this series and chose the right time to end it. Every moment of 26 episodes was great and I really recommend this series, because it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.
